Dimethocaine molecule structure
Dimethocaine is an analogue of cocaine and has its origin in the pharmaceutical industry, it is also known as Larocaine or in short DMC. It was developed as local anesthetic, but it still produces psychoactive effects and is said to hold around 20-30% of the potency from cocaine. This was of course the reason why dimethocaine never found any use in the medicine, therefore other analogues of cocaine are used, i.e. novocaine or lidocaine.

Cause dimethocaine is not mentioned in many laws around the globe, it attracted a large amount of attention and is growing in popularity. Many consumers describe the dimethocaine effects as similar to those of low grade cocaine, but some consumers also report a general lack of dimethocaine effects and feel nothing besides the numbing.

But this lack of dimethocaine effects also could be based on several reasons, if someone has a tolerance to cocaine, the body is used to stronger effects and dimethocaine is not enough to develop a full cocaine like experience. Another reason is the growing amount of fake dimethocaine. Often other cocaine analogues are sold instead of dimethocaine, but these analogues do not hold any psychoactive effects. There had been even several cases where caffeine was mixed with a non psychoactive cocaine analogue and sold as dimethocaine.

Often there are also reports occurring, which tell that dimethocaine effects are stronger numbing than those of cocaine, but the reason for this could also be the impurity of cocaine itself. Most of the illicit cocaine has only a purity of 20% - 40%, therefore lower amounts of dimethocaine are required to achieve the same type of numbing effects.

The most popular way to consume dimethocaine is insufflation of the research chemical, but anecdotal reports also state the use of dimethocaine through injection or over the mouth mucosa to achieve its effects. The average dimethocaine dosage through insufflation is set between 50 and 100 mg of the pure research chemical.

But the overall dimethocaine effects are far less euphoric than those of cocaine, the reason for this is just the lower potency of dimethocaine. Further the cocaine effects come up real quickly and develop very fast, but the cocaine effects are also rather short lasting. The dimethocaine effects on the other hand come up slower and require some time to fully develop, but therefore they also last longer. If dimethocaine is insufflated, it requires around 5 minuted before the first dimethocaine effects set in, than the full effects take around 10 minutes to come up and last for around 90-120 minutes, after that the dimethocaine effects slowly fade within 60 minutes.

But through the lower intensity of the euphoria produced by dimethocaine, the risk of addiction is also far lower, with cocaine the effects are commonly ending quite quickly and the desire to consume another line is rather big. But the dimethocaine effects on the opposite fade slowly and gradually.

The specific side effects of dimethocaine had not been established and researched, but since it is a direct analogue of cocaine they can be estimated. Dimethocaine could be as harsh for the nasal mucosa as cocaine, what means through a extended time of uptake the nasal mucosa could dry out and small injuries might occur. If dimethocaine is used over several months/years it could also happen that there is a risk of a break through from the nasal septum.

Further dimethocaine might also be a burden for the heart, the circulatory system, liver and kidneys. But it is unknown how strong these problems are compared with cocaine. Cause dimethocaine has weaker effects than cocaine, many cocaine users have the tendency to consume ridiculous large amounts to achieve similar effects. But this is not going to happen, cause dimethocaine is never able to produce the same rush of effects as cocaine.

In the terms of safety this means that large dimethocaine dosages or repeated consumption should be avoided. Dimethocaine is not cocaine and so the effects are not the same!

Often dimethocaine also occurs in a yellowish tan, but this could be based on impurities, fake dimethocaine or unclean production. But it also could be dimethocaine that is old or wasn't stored properly and thus degraded and produced a discoloring of the research chemical. Dimethocaine in its pure form is somewhat hygroscopic and therefore builds the above shown structure.
